Spring has finally arrived, which means it's the perfect time to dust off your bike and hit those trails! With the snow melting, the longer, warmer days, and the flowers blooming, it's the perfect time to rediscover the joy of cycling. So whether you're an experienced cyclist or just getting back into it, grab your bike, strap on that helmet, and check out our spring riding tips and trail highlights for the season.

Spring Tune-Up: Check Before You Trek

Before you blast off on your first spring ride, take a few minutes to make sure your bike is in tip-top shape. Here’s a quick checklist to get you rolling safely:

  • Tires & Tubes – Make sure they’re properly inflated and free of cracks from winter storage. If you run tubed tires, it’s a great time to upgrade with Tannus Armour for much-needed flat protection.
  • Brakes – Give them a squeeze. If they’re feeling soft or squeaky, a quick tune-up might be in order.
  • Drivetrain – Check your chain, derailleur, and cassette for grime. A little cleaning and fresh lube go a long way.
  • Bolts & Nuts – A once-over to make sure everything’s tight can prevent mid-ride surprises.
  • Suspension & Gears – If you ride a mountain bike, check your suspension settings and make sure your gears are shifting smoothly.

Once your bike is dialed in, it’s time to hit the best trails that spring has to offer…and lucky for you, we did a little research to help you find the best trails.

Top Spring Bike Trails to Explore

(Peak bloom is anticipated for end of March)

Stretching across Missouri, the Katy Trail is a haven for all types of cyclists. Whether you’re rolling on a gravel bike, a touring setup, or a classic mountain bike, this trail offers diverse terrain, stunning river views, and charming small towns to stop for a break. It’s the perfect place to put Tannus Armour or Tannus Tubeless Inserts to the test and ride worry-free.

3. McCoy Flats Trail, Utah

Located just west of Vernal, McCoy Flats is a mountain biker’s playground. Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned pro, this area has trails that flow like a dream. Spring brings perfect dirt conditions, making every ride smooth and rewarding. If you’re running tubeless, consider Tannus Tubeless Inserts for added control and impact protection. Just remember to check for trail closures if the spring thaw has left things a bit muddy!

4. Murdock Canal Trail, Northern Utah

For a more relaxed but still scenic ride, the Murdock Canal Trail spans across Utah County and even leads into Provo Canyon. This paved trail is great for road bikes, commuters, and hybrid setups, with breathtaking views and mountain biking parks branching off along the way. It’s the perfect spot to ease back into riding shape after the winter break.

5. Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, California

If ocean views are your jam, this California gem is a must-ride. The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail runs right along the Pacific, offering fresh salty air, scenic cliffs, and the occasional sea otter sighting. Ideal for cruisers, e-bikes, and anyone looking for a laid-back yet beautiful ride. Tannus Solid Tires make the ride even smoother, so you can focus on the scenery, and not your tire pressure.

6. Wilder Ranch State Park, California

Another California classic, Wilder Ranch State Park offers a mix of coastal views and rolling hills. With mountain biking trails for both beginner and advanced riders, it’s a great spot to shake off the winter rust and get those legs moving again. Are you running tubeless? Tannus Tubeless Inserts help absorb impact and improve control for a more confident ride.

Ride Smart: Spring Safety Tips

While it’s tempting to charge into spring at full speed, there are a few key things to keep in mind to make sure your rides are safe and enjoyable:

  • Respect Trail Closures – Spring thaw means muddy trails, and riding on them too soon can cause serious damage. If a trail is marked as closed, give it time to dry out.
  • Watch for Wildlife – Spring means animals are on the move. Be aware of your surroundings, and give wildlife plenty of space. No matter how fluffy or cute the animal is... do not pet it, it will only lead to sadness 🙁
  • Dress in Layers – Spring weather is unpredictable. Mornings can be chilly, and afternoons can heat up fast, so dress accordingly.
  • Stay Hydrated – Warmer days can sneak up on you, and dehydration is no joke. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
  • Lights & Visibility – Spring may provide longer, sunnier days than winter, but remember night time can sneak up on you quickly. Make sure to have the proper reflective gear and lights for those longer rides.

Time to Roll

With winter in the rearview mirror and endless trails ahead, spring is the perfect time to rediscover the joy of biking. Whether you’re cruising through cherry blossoms, tackling rugged mountain trails, or soaking up coastal views, there’s a perfect ride waiting for you. So, grab your bike, check your gear, and get out there… adventure is calling!

And remember, no matter where your spring rides take you, Tannus has your back (or at least your tires) to keep you rolling flat and worry-free. Happy riding!
