There’s something sacred about the hush of dawn on a quiet trail. That moment when light begins to stretch across the landscape, revealing the wild details we so often overlook, a dew-speckled leaf, a distant raven’s caw, the feeling that this place was made to be loved and protected. On days like Earth Day, we’re reminded that it’s not just about enjoying these places, it’s about showing up for them.

At Tannus, our mission has always extended beyond making great gear, it’s about sustaining the future! It’s about changing the way we ride, how we consume, and how we care for the world we ride through. We believe the land gives us so much in adventure, clarity, healing, and it’s our responsibility to give something back.

That’s why we’re proud to share something big this Earth Day.

In Partnership with Schwalbe: A New Chapter in Tube Recycling

We’ve been recycling bike tubes for years now, keeping rubber out of landfills and turning it into useful materials. But this year, we’re taking things further, from just recycling to full circularity.

Thanks to our new partnership, we can now turn old tubes back into new ones. This is part of Schwalbe’s “Cradle-to-Cradle” initiative, a groundbreaking move in the cycling industry to reduce waste and emissions by keeping tubes in the loop. It's not just about breaking things down anymore, it’s about building them back up and giving back to mother nature!

As of now, we will no longer accept slime tubes, as they are not compatible with the closed-loop system. We’re focusing on solutions that support a truly sustainable future, where every tube can ride again, and our impact on the environment can become even less than before.

Why This Matters

Let this sink in for a second: every year, enough bike tubes are thrown away to fill the Empire State Building eight times. And most of those end up in landfills, taking centuries to decompose.

But together, we can change that. With Schwalbe’s program already successful in Europe, recycling over 9 million tubes, we’re excited to bring this to the U.S. Through our combined network of participating bike shops, we’re making it easier than ever to ensure your ride doesn’t come at the cost of the environment. If you are a bike shop that is interested in joining this incredible initiative, we have an application right here!

When compared to creating new tubes from scratch, recycling reduces energy use by over 80%. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a promise to the planet!

From Riders, For the Earth

If you’ve followed Tannus or joined us on trails, you know our heart beats for wild places. From the deserts trails to the rocky peaks, and the misty forests, nature has always been our cathedral.

Earth Day is not just a call to action, it’s a reminder of connection. That every pedal stroke, every trail carved, every summit reached, is a privilege. And that privilege comes with responsibility.

This partnership is a step in the right direction. A step toward making our industry part of the solution. Toward ensuring future generations can stand where we stood, ride where we rode, and fall in love with the world we’re lucky to explore.

So let’s keep showing up for the Earth, not just on April 22, but every day. Let’s build a future full of trails, full of adventure, and full of life.

See you out there,
Wyatt Peterson

Let me be honest with you right out of the gate, I didn’t grow up dreaming of bike gear. In fact, if you rewind a few years, you’d find me flying down the street on a dark purple Mongoose bought on sale at Walmart, knees probably scraped, helmet probably too loose, and not a single care in the world.

Did I know what a tire liner was? Absolutely not.
